Short answer. First, check whether the eSIM is already installed: open the list of lines (Settings, Mobile Service on iPhone; SIM manager on Samsung; SIMs on Pixel). Several error messages appear even though the installation worked. If it is not there, read the message: each has a specific cause, set out below. Do not keep rescanning the QR code, and delete nothing before writing to us.
"This code is no longer valid"
Our supplier gives two causes: the QR code was misread, or the eSIM has already been installed. Check the list of lines first: if the eSIM is there, all is well. If not, try once more, with a good connection and good light, the whole QR code inside the frame. If the message comes back, use the manual installation (below) or write to us: we can see with our supplier whether the eSIM is already installed somewhere.
"Unable to Activate eSIM"
Our supplier describes this iPhone message for some eSIMs installed outside the country they cover, in the UK for example, and adds that the eSIM is most often installed despite the error. Open Settings, Mobile Service: if the eSIM appears in the list, carry on as normal. It will activate in Tunisia.
"Cellular Plans From This Carrier Cannot be Added"
Our supplier links this message to a phone locked to its network. Check: Settings, General, About, and look for "No SIM Restrictions" next to Network Provider Lock (Carrier Lock in the US). If it is not there, only your network can unlock the phone. See is my phone eSIM compatible?
"Unable to Complete Cellular Plan Change"
Our supplier reads it as an installation that did not finish, for one of these reasons:
- the phone already holds as many eSIMs as it accepts: delete an old travel eSIM that has ended;
- the eSIM has already been installed once;
- the internet connection was too weak during installation;
- mobile data was switched off in the settings.
The QR code will not scan
Our supplier advises checking the light, bringing the QR code closer, updating the phone's system, then restarting it before trying again. A phone cannot scan its own screen: show the QR code on a computer or tablet, or print it. On iPhone with iOS 17.4 or later, Apple also lets you tap and hold the QR code in the email, then tap Add eSIM.
Manual installation, when scanning fails
Our email holds two details under the QR code: the SM-DP+ address and the activation code.
- iPhone: Settings, Mobile Service, Add eSIM, Use QR Code, then "Enter Details Manually". Copy the SM-DP+ address and the code; leave the confirmation code blank.
- Android: on the add-eSIM screen, look for "Enter code" or manual entry, and paste the same details.
What not to do
- Do not delete an eSIM that appears in the list to "start again": reinstallation is not guaranteed, as our terms state.
- Do not scan the same QR code on a second phone: an eSIM installs on one device at a time.
- Do not erase the phone to fix an installation error.
Next, for the connection on arrival: activate an eSIM in Tunisia.
Our eSIM runs on the Orange Tunisie network: 1 GB a day at full 4G speed, then 512 kbps until the next day, hotspot included, QR code by email, plan starting at your first connection in Tunisia. See the plans.
