Short answer: for a single day in Tunisia, our 1-day plan costs €6.50. Install it at home, switch it on when you step ashore or leave the plane, and it gives you unlimited data on Orange Tunisie: 1 GB a day at full 4G speed, then a slower connection that is not cut off. It is the shortest unlimited plan we know of for Tunisia apart from Holafly's, which cost €6.90 on 1 October 2026; Airalo sells no single day of unlimited data.
Why a day ashore is a special case
A cruise call or a long layover gives you a few hours, not a few days. There is no time to find an operator's shop, queue and register a SIM with your passport. The connection has to work when you arrive, for maps, a taxi, the meeting point of an excursion and a message home. That is exactly what an eSIM installed in advance is for.
Before you leave home
- Check the phone. It must support eSIM and must not be locked to your operator. Check it here: our terms give no refund for an incompatible phone.
- Buy and install on Wi-Fi. The QR code arrives by email. Installing does not start the plan: the days count from the first connection in Tunisia. The steps are in how to install a Tunisia eSIM.
- Leave the line off until you are in Tunisia.
On a cruise: the roaming trap at sea
At sea, many ships run their own mobile network by satellite. A phone left on automatic can connect to it, and your home operator then bills that use at its maritime rates, which are among the highest it has. Two settings avoid it: keep data roaming off on your home line for the whole cruise, and keep the Tunisia eSIM line off until the ship is docked. Switch the eSIM on once you are on the quay, so that it connects to the land network.
When you step ashore
- Turn the eSIM line on and select it for mobile data.
- Turn on data roaming for the eSIM line only.
- Wait a minute for the phone to find Orange Tunisie. If it does not, toggle airplane mode.
Cruise ships calling at Tunis dock at La Goulette, a short ride from Carthage, Sidi Bou Said and the medina of Tunis. A long layover at Tunis-Carthage airport leaves you about the same choices.
What fits in one day
The first gigabyte of the day comes at full 4G speed. For a day ashore that covers maps and navigation, ride and ticket apps, messages with photos and a good deal of browsing. If you go beyond it, the connection continues at 512 kbps: messages and maps still work, video does not. What the slower speed still allows.
What the plan does not do
- No calls, no SMS, no Tunisian number. It is a data eSIM. Calling apps work over the data connection.
- No carry-over. A one-day plan is for one day. If your ship calls at Tunisia twice, or your trip has two separate stops several days apart, a second plan is needed, or a longer one that covers both dates.
- No signal promise. The eSIM uses one network, Orange Tunisie, wherever that operator has coverage.
Two days or more
For a weekend, the 3-day plan costs €14.90. All the durations and the cost per day are in Tunisia eSIM prices: what each plan costs. Choose a plan.
