Short answer. On the Ookla Speedtest Global Index for September 2026, Tunisia is 80th in the world for mobile with a median of 49.01 Mbps, and 140th for fixed lines with 23.27 Mbps. Mobile there is about twice as fast as fixed, so at a hotel your mobile data can beat the Wi-Fi.

Everyday speeds
Ookla counts tests people choose to run. Opensignal measures everyday use, with lower figures.
| Operator | Average download | Average upload |
|---|---|---|
| Ooredoo | 28.0 Mbps | 11.0 Mbps |
| Tunisie Telecom | 23.3 Mbps | 8.9 Mbps |
| Orange | 20.1 Mbps | 8.1 Mbps |

What do you need on a trip?
Netflix asks for 5 Mbps for HD and 15 Mbps for 4K. All three operators' averages are above those marks. On a phone, your limit is more often the allowance than the speed.
Hotel Wi-Fi or mobile data?
| Situation | Better choice |
|---|---|
| Evening in a full hotel | Mobile data, often |
| Large backup | Good Wi-Fi, to save your allowance |
| Maps and taxis outside | Mobile data |
| Video call | Test both |
How to run a useful speed test
- Turn off Wi-Fi and run a test on mobile data.
- Take two readings a few minutes apart and keep the lower one.
- Note the time: networks are often busier in the evening.
- Try again in another spot before you decide.
A test uses data, so do not repeat it over and over on a daily allowance. If the test is fine but apps will not load, look at data roaming on the eSIM line instead. A national median says nothing about one street: the room, the floor and the time of day often matter more than the country's rank. For coverage, see the figures by operator.
The eSIMTunisie.com eSIM runs on 4G LTE on the Orange Tunisie network, with 1 GB a day at full speed then 512 Kbps until the next day, hotspot included. First check that your phone is eSIM compatible.
