Short answer. According to nPerf's annual barometer of mobile internet in Tunisia for 2025, Tunisie Telecom and Orange share first place, and Ooredoo improved fastest. Orange, the network our eSIM uses, showed an average download speed of 49.1 Mbps and the best latency in the market. For a traveller, though, real speed depends mostly on where you are, the time of day and the rule of your plan.
nPerf's 2025 barometer
nPerf is a speed-test app. Its 2025 barometer for Tunisia, reported by La Presse on 19 January 2026, is based on 111,424 tests run from 1 January to 31 December 2025 on Android and iOS. The nPoints score combines speeds, latency, web browsing and video.
| Operator | nPerf score (nPoints) | Download | Upload |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tunisie Telecom | 77,847 | 77.2 Mbps | 17.5 Mbps |
| Orange Tunisie | 75,713 | 49.1 Mbps | 15.8 Mbps |
| Ooredoo | 67,969 | not given in the article | not given in the article |
Tunisie Telecom and Orange are declared joint leaders. Orange had the best latency in the market (32.4 ms); Ooredoo showed the strongest growth over the year (+31.2%). These figures come from a press release reported by the press: they are national averages over volunteer tests, not a promise for a given street or hotel.
The trend: a mobile network that is getting better
Freedom House's 2025 report on internet freedom raised Tunisia's access score from 4 to 5 out of 6, because mobile speeds improved during the period it covers. The three operators launched commercial 5G in February 2025; it does not cover the whole country yet.
What really matters for a traveller
- Where you are: towns and the coast are far better equipped than the interior and the desert. Mozilla Location Service's open data counts hundreds of 4G cells per operator around Tunis, a few dozen on Djerba, and sometimes none around southern villages.
- The time: in the evening, in a full beach resort, the network is busier.
- Your plan's rule: an "unlimited" plan slows down after a daily amount.
Speed with our eSIM
Our eSIM uses Orange Tunisie's 4G network, not 5G. Each day the first gigabyte runs at full 4G speed; after that the connection continues at 512 kbps until the next day, without being cut. At 512 kbps, messages, maps and music work; HD video does not. Details in Tunisia eSIM unlimited data, explained. Plans run from โฌ6.50 for 1 day to โฌ84.90 for 30 days.
If the connection is slow on the spot
- Check that mobile data and data roaming are on for the eSIM line, and that the phone is not stuck on a busy hotel Wi-Fi.
- Switch Airplane mode on and off for 30 seconds to force a new connection.
- Pick the network by hand in your settings: Orange Tunisie can show as TUNOR or 605 01.
- Check whether you have already used today's gigabyte: if so, speed is reduced until the next day, which is expected.
