Short answer. On our plans, the most common cause of a slow eSIM is simple: the day's full-speed data has been used. You get 1 GB a day at 4G speed, then 512 kbps until the next day. If the slowdown comes late in the day after videos or a hotspot, that is it. If not, look at the network (place, peak time), then the APN if you typed it by hand.
Cause 1: the day's full speed is used up
Our plans are unlimited: the data never runs out and the connection is never cut. But full 4G speed covers 1 GB a day; beyond that, speed drops to 512 kbps until the next day. At 512 kbps, messaging, maps and simple browsing work; high-definition video and large photo uploads struggle. Details in what unlimited really means.
To check, look at the eSIM line's data usage in the settings (iPhone: Settings, Mobile Service, bottom of the screen). If the day's usage is already past 1 GB, that is the reason.
Cause 2: the network in that place, at that time
Our supplier points out that speed depends on network congestion, the operator's priorities and coverage. In Tunisia, the Orange Tunisie signal is generally strongest in towns and along the coast; it can be weak in places in the Sahara. In a medina with thick walls, a stadium or a full airport, speed drops for everyone. See mobile internet speed in Tunisia and our coverage page.
Worth trying: Airplane Mode for ten seconds then off, which forces a new connection; a few dozen metres towards a more open street; or hotel Wi-Fi for large downloads.
Cause 3: an APN typed by hand
The APN on our eSIMs sets itself. Our supplier warns that a wrongly typed manual APN can look like slow internet when the real problem is the installation. If you changed the APN, it must be exactly data.esim, with the other fields blank.
Cause 4: apps using data in the background
The day's full speed can go without you watching any video. To make data last, our supplier advises:
- turning on Low Data Mode on iPhone (in the eSIM line) or Data Saver on Android;
- switching off video autoplay in social media apps;
- limiting background data for heavy apps;
- leaving updates and photo backups for Wi-Fi;
- downloading films, music and offline maps before you go out.
With hotspot, connected devices draw on the same daily amount: a laptop running updates can use it up in minutes. See hotspot in Tunisia.
What does not help
- Deleting and reinstalling the eSIM: it does not change the speed, and reinstallation is not guaranteed.
- Buying a second identical plan the same day to "get speed back" without writing to us: tell us first what you see.
When to write to us
If the connection is slow from the morning, before the first gigabyte, in a town, after Airplane Mode and a restart, email contact@esimtunisie.com, 7 days a week, 9 am to 8 pm GMT, with the time, the place and a screenshot of a speed test. If the connection is completely down, that is a different case: eSIM has signal but no internet.
Our eSIM runs on the Orange Tunisie network: 1 GB a day at full 4G speed, then 512 kbps until the next day, hotspot included, QR code by email, plan starting at your first connection in Tunisia. See the plans.
